October 27-28, 2018 – OSIJEK
Our visit to Osijek included two events: 1/ program on Saturday at the American Cultural Center and 2/ program on Sunday at EPC Osijek (Evangelical Pentecostal Church).
Saturday morning, we headed to the Library of the American Cultural Center for the Superbook program. Although the event was advertised on local radio and through posters, not many children showed up. But we didn’t let that spoil our fun! We who did show up enjoyed a Superbook episode, a little quiz, a “SuperCup game”, and finally sung a song and danced with Gizmo. We took some photos of Gizmo with children and freshened up with juices and snacks.
The next day, on Sunday, we visited the Evangelical Church in a historic building in the center of Osijek – a former synagogue. That week was the “Christian Book Week” organized by the faculty and church, traditionally held in Osijek on the Reformation Day, October 31, and we were able to browse through some of the oldest copies of the Bible dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. In addition, thousands of titles from various Christian publishing houses from Croatia could be found at the exhibition. In this building we were greeted by 40 children aged 7 to 14 years who gladly played with us, watched one of the Superbook episodes and eventually took pictures with Gizmo.
We had a great time in Osijek and we will be glad to come again!
